Abstract

The major goal of this study is to provide a managerial viewpoint on the circular economy principles and guidelines in order to provide guidance for managers working on the concept. This is covered in the part that brings together the many guidelines in the complex environment of circular documents, regulations, and principles on different levels. These recommendations will be viewed from several perspectives. The macro, meso, and micro levels are all important. The macro-level will be assessed, based on European reports, sustainable development goals, and other reports. Belgian reports will be used to build the meso guidelines. The micro-level will focus on Ghent University's design guidelines and incentives. In addition, the discovered core concepts will be proposed and discussed with professionals working at Ghent University's Department of Infrastructure and Facility Management for reflection and learning. These heads of construction use or have used circular concepts in the Ghent University construction scene. By putting these rules to the test in real life, the conversation with these experts will add to a more complete overview on the concrete application of circular economy in construction and will inform the managerial circular economy guidelines as one of the contributions of this thesis. This research is in collaboration with Ghent University and the Stadsacademie. The Stadsacademie is a Collaboratory for transdisciplinary research and education on complex and urgent sustainability issues of the city of Ghent and Ghent University.
