Future Agricultural Heritage — #4 Care for the Elderly - Healthy Food - The Soil

The special collaboration between the chef of the AZ Zeno, Pieter De Smet, and the Polderveld's CSA farmer, Lieven De Vreese, originated by chance, but gradually grew into a strong short-chain cooperation. Healthy and tasty food in care is at the centre. Other healthcare institutions are watching this pioneering project with great interest. One of them is Curando Oost, a group that runs residential care centres and childcare facilities, and delivers meals at home. However, implementing such a model is far from straightforward. Besides farmland and farming expertise, kitchen organisation is also a crucial factor. And that requires financial resources that are not always available in the care sector.
